Where it started
Clinicians were reading MediStat's dashboards between appointments, often on a ward tablet in poor light. The existing interface used colour alone to encode severity and failed contrast at almost every level.
What we did about it
- 1
Design for the worst-case context
Every screen was validated at 200% zoom, in direct sunlight, and with a screen reader. Severity encoding moved from colour alone to shape, position and label, so colour became reinforcement rather than the signal.
- 2
Build an identity that earns trust
The new identity traded clinical sterility for calm authority: a warmer neutral palette, a humanist typeface with strong numerals, and a data-visualisation palette validated for the three most common forms of colour vision deficiency.
- 3
Ship it as a system
Forty-one components were tokenised and delivered in Figma and code together, so the in-house team could extend the platform without re-litigating design decisions.
What changed
The platform passed a third-party accessibility audit with no critical findings, and clinician-reported task confidence rose in every post-launch survey category.
